"FEMME AU CHAT"
OIL ON WOOD PANEL, ESTATE STAMPED
38 X 26 INCHES
was born in Etterbeek Belgium in 1896. He was a student at l’Académie
traveled to North Africa and Italy in subsequent years, like many artists
of his generation. He lived for thirty years in Maraiakerke-Ostende,
was a Postimpressionist, he used Cubist elements in his early work,
and later the Expressionist technique of his fellow Belgian Modernists.
He painted nudes, still lifes, and landscapes, always with a passion
that is evident in the vibrant period in which he lived.
There was a retrospective of his paintings at Galerie Patrick Lancz in Brussells in the late 1990’s; an impressive catalogue was produced with many illustrations of his work.
