Rita Silvan

1928 -

 

Rita Silvan was born in Minneapolis Minnesota in 1928. She received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota. She attended NYU for graduate school, studying with Paul Burlin, Ralston Crawford and Cameron Booth.

Silvan was a member of the Artists Equity Association. She exhibited at New York City Center in 1958; the Newark Museum in 1958; Minneapolis Institute of Arts in 1950; the Minnesota State Fair from 1948-1950; and the Harriet Hanley Gallery in 1951. Silvan won awards at the Minnesota State Fair in both 1948 and 1949.

Silvan worked as an art instructor at the Art Center in Englewood, New Jersey, and also at the Young Women’s Christian Association in Ridgewood, New Jersey. She worked as a research assistant in the photography department at MoMA in 1953.
