Leo Nowak Leo Nowak
was born in 1907 in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He studied at the John Huntington
Art Institute, the Cleveland School of Art, the Darvas School of Design
and also with Frank Wilcox and Henry J. Miller. The artist
exhibited at the Cleveland Museum of Art from 1929-1943 and in Laguna
Beach 1951-1952. Nowak was a member of the California Art Club and received
awards from the Cleveland Museum of Art, Laguna Beach Art Festival,
Griffith Park Theatre in Los Angeles and the Cleveland Telenews Art
Gallery. Two mural commissions were granted by the New York Central
Rail Road Engineer’s Building and the Cleveland Hunters Tavern.
Nowak illustrated
both Trampo the Sailor and Uncle Wiggly and contribute illustrations
to the Superman Magazine and the NEA Newspaper Service. The date of the artist’s death is unknown. |
