Jos De Smedt

Born 1894

Jos De Smedt was born in Anvers in 1894. He received formal training at the academies in Anvers, Malines and in Brussels under Montald, Delville, Richir and Rousseau.

The artist became known for his nudes and historic, allegorical and religious subjects. He worked in the atelier of Luc Olivier Merson in Paris and went on to teach decorative arts at l’École des Arts et Métiers d’Etterbeck.

The dates of De Smedt’s death are unknown though he is listed in the Piron dictionary of Belgian artists.
