Ida krangel

Born 1905

Krangel was born in Russia and emigrated to the United States as a young woman where she settled in New York City.

She exhibited with a group of other young artists, at the Opportunity Gallery, Art Center at 65 East 56th Street in Midtown Manhattan, the exhibition was curated by noted artist  and teacher Barnard Karfiol, only 40 paintings out of 200 submitted in its 56th Street exhibition.

Few female artists were included in the exhibition. This was the first show to exhibit the work of Mark Rothko, who was the same age as Krangel, and also a Russian Jewish emigrant. Milton Avery also had a painting in the exhibition.

There is not much known about the artist after this, like many artists she found work designing commercial products, there is a  1940's ad illustration that Krangel created for Beau Brummel ties. We believe she authored a book published in 1955 titled "In the name of God, a play in three acts for which she is listed as having a copyright.
