1881 - 1948

Glen C. Sheffer has had a comprehensive exhibit of his paintings in his studio in the Tree Studio Building the last two weeks. Mr. Sheffer is one of the leading members of the Palette and Chisel Club, an organization that is more truly of the artists and by the artists and for the artists than any other similarly inclined club in Chicago.

"Chicago Painter In Local Exhibit"

"Ainslie Galleries Give Sheffer Detroit Debut".
A Chicago artist, whose talent and training have given him an enviable place among fellow artists of the Midwest is Glen C. Sheffer, whose paintings will be presented at the Ainslie galleries tomorrow, to continue on exhibition until March 30.

Mr. Sheffer is ex-president of the Palette and Chisel Club of Chicago, and also a member of the Painters and Sculptors club.  This will be the first showing of his work in Detroit.

Academically a product of the Art Institute and the Art Academy of Chicago, his further studies were largely self-conducted, though materially assisted by such masters as Hans Larvin, of Vienna, Albert Gartmann, of Berlin and Walter Goldbeck, of New York.

Mr. Sheffer shows a versatility that is truly remarkable. He paints charming little nude and half-draped figures bathed in a riotous profusion of Oriental color. There are dainty nymphs and dryads in the open woodlands, crowded street scenes and sunlit beaches gay with life and color. There are simple landscapes, and there are also some most dramatic and romantic figure compositions, based on the legends and history of the mighty pirate chieftain Barbarosa, who, in command of a fleet of over 100 galleons, laid heavy tribute of both lives and gold against the commerce and the coast cities of the Mediterranean during the middle ages.
