Eduardo Mata Icaza was born and raised in Costa Rica in 1984.

His interest in art began very young; he took his first drawing class at the age of eight.

In 2002, he began his studies at the School of Fine Arts at the University of Costa Rica, where he primarily explored painting, ceramics, printmaking, sculpture, drawing and art history.

Icaza’s work looks for the essence of the human being, its inherent characteristics of existence, as well as the contrasts of life. He plays with light and shadows, black and white, as well as finished and unfinished compositions, as a means of exploring the game between life, death, all or nothing, being or not being.

After participating in group and solo shows in Costa Rica, Eduardo moved to Marseille, France where he is currently based. He has had several exhibitions in France.
