His work is now in private collections in nearly every state, Canada, Mexico, South America, Europe, and Australia. His bigger sculptures have been placed in institutional and commercial lobbies. Media reviews have described Mr. Murphy’s sculptures as follows: "impressive," "breathtakingly beautiful," "seem to soar from their...bases," "streamlined, smooth and exciting," "defying gravity," "combine strong clean lines with gracefulness and warmth," and emotionally "moving."

DAN MURPHY IS CURRENTLY IN HIS 38TH YEAR, FULL TIME, AS AN ABSTRACT METAL SCULPTOR. HE DID HIS FIRST SCULPTURE IN 1976, WHILE A STUDENT AT UNC’S LAW SCHOOL. WITHIN TWO MONTHS, HE TOOK HIS WORK TO NEW YORK, GOT A POSITIVE RESPONSE, AND NEVER LOOKED BACK. HIS STYLE IS HIS OWN, SINCE HE HAD NO FORMAL TRAINING, AND IS RECOGNIZABLE AS HIS. HE MADE ALL THE METAL FORMING EQUIPMENT HE USES TO CREATE EXCITING METAL SHAPES FROM STAINLESS STEEL, ANODIZED ALUMINUM AND BRASS. HIS WORK HAS WON MULTIPLE NATIONAL AWARDS, AND RANGES FROM LOBBY SIZE THROUGH PEDESTAL SIZE FOR HOME AND OFFICE AND DOWN TO MINIATURES OF HIS OWN WORK, JUST A FEW INCHES TALL.
