Clara Shainess

1896-1987

 

Shainess was born on January 13, 1896 Manchester England.

She lived most of her life in New York.

She worked in oil, collage, watercolor, Sculpture (wood, marble, bronze), and tapestry.

Shainess is represented in the National Academy of Design, NY Whitney Museum, American British Art Center, NY,  Riverside Museum, NY Bosc-petrides, France

She studied at the  Art Students League, New York,  Private Study with James McPherson, Bernard and Stuart Klonis, and Aaron Goodelman.

Shainess exhibited at the Worlds Fair 1939, NY Riverside Museum 1939, NY Hacker Gallery 1979, NY Borough Presidents Gallery 1988, NY Bonestell Gallery, Madison Gallery, Panoras Gallery.

She was a member of the  National Association of Women Artists- President, New York, Society of Women Artists- President, American Society of Contemporary Artists- President.

Awards: N.A.W.A. Jsephine Droege Prize, N.A.W.A. Honorable Mention for Sculpture.
