Antonio Perez Cardenal

1921-2008

Cardenal was born in La Garrovilla in the province of Badajoz, Spain, in 1921.

In Madrid he developed his entire artistic career: he was a draftsman, restorer, painter, sculptor, but always in the shade, so he is only remembered in a very small circle. Expert in religious art, he worked for many years carrying out all kinds of projects and designs for Santarrufina and for Juan de Ávalos and carrying out custom works for individuals. He also designed jewelry for Carrera and Carrera. At eighty-six he still painted.

He worked for a religious art company. The themes in his work can be divided into religious, mythological and fantasy.

Little is known about his art education but he did study art in Madrid in the 1940s immediately after the Civil War.

At eighty-six he still painted he was still painting, he died in Madrid in 2008.
