Albert Becus

1900-1989

Becus was born in Paris in 1900 in a very modest family. His father, a former soldier, was old enough to have participated in the Crimean War (1854-1855) so he was at least 64 years old at the birth of Albert. His mother, a native of Langon, was a cook in Paris.

He had an Early Passion for drawing and painting. He painted from 1917 till 1976 when he had to stop because of Eyes Problems. He worked in Paris, Montmartre and in the old quarters of Paris now extinct.

He was also interested in the picturesque old streets and the old houses in Honfleur, Spain, Italy and the South of France . The passion of his life was painting.

Becus exhibited at the Salon of the Société Nationale de Paris from 1928-1938, he became an associate member in 1934.

He paintings show that this self-taught artist had a sense of light, and one feels the influence of the Masters of Impressionism for which he had a great admiration. He died in March 1989.
