Osman Ajax Jackson

1902-1987

Ajax Jackson was born in West Bend, Indiana on August 30, 1902.

In 1920 he moved to California, settling in Berkeley. Initially a painter, Jackson abandoned painting for sculpting during the 1920s. He then studied at the CCAC under Bufano. He married the artist Gordena Parker Jackson and lived in the Berkeley hills in a house of his own construction until his death on Aug. 10, 1987.

Jackson's work consists mainly of small, wooden figures under three-feet tall. He exhibited at the Berkeley League of FA, 1924; California Statewide (Santa Cruz), 1931; San Francisco Museum of Art, 1938; and San Francisco Art Association, 1939.
